ACCLAIMED SCULPTOR REBECCA TOBEY TO REVEAL NEW WORK IN PALM DESERT

Next week’s show at Adagio Galleries will also spotlight work by painter B.C. Nowlin

PALM DESERT, CA — November 23, 2010 — Next week, nationally renowned artist Rebecca Tobey will reveal her newest collection of extraordinary bronze and ceramic sculptures during a one-day show at Palm Desert’s Adagio Galleries.

Known for her sculptures of abstracted animal forms, Rebecca will appear at the landmark desert gallery on Saturday, December 4 from 4 p.m. till 7 p.m. The show will also feature the oil paintings of artist B. C. Nowlin whose native images and landscapes are at the core of the contemporary Southwest Art Movement.

The event will spotlight some of Rebecca’s first new ceramic sculptures at Adagio Galleries in nearly a decade. Among them is "Flight of Fancy,” which captures dancing figures and an eagle soaring in the night sky along the surface of a ceramic buffalo. Another new sculpture featured at the show will be “Oh Give Me a Home,” which depicts sleek deer and antelope playing across the surface of a ceramic grizzly bear.

“Rebecca’s talent and passion for bronze and ceramic sculpture have made her a vital part of this gallery for many years,” said gallery owner Sonny Ruggiero. “We are so pleased to celebrate her contributions to the art world during this very special evening.”

Following years of collaboration with her late husband, Gene Tobey, Rebecca continues to blaze a trail in her own right, creating timeless sculptures that appear at first glance as sleek silhouettes, but upon closer viewing reveal a surface coated with intriguing glyphs and symbols.

“Palm Desert has always been such a magical place for me,” said Rebecca, who has shown at Adagio Galleries for nearly 20 years. “I couldn’t think of a better place to showcase my new work.”

Rebecca currently shows in Tubac and Sedona Arizona; Palm Desert, California; Golden and Vail Colorado; Jackson Hole and Cody, Wyoming and her native city of Santa Fe where she works out of her home studio.
